TinyTimer shortlisted for BPA awards
The first stage of the judging process for the BPA Concept and Innovation Awards was complete on 20th Jan 2017 and my invention was shortlisted and through to the second round of judging. How exciting! This was to take the form of a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style presentation at The London Marriott Hotel. I needed to prepare a presentation and be prepared for questions from the judges which was the most daunting part.
The judging panel included Robert Anslow, Chairman of several committees covering BSI and CEN safety standards, MD of the Baby Products Association and organiser of Harrogate International Nursery Fair who is also called upon as an expert witness in court relating to safety and performance of baby/nursery equipment; Anne Smith from ANEC, the European consumer voice in standardisation which defends consumer interests in the process of standardisation and certification; Rachelle Harel, Sales and Marketing Consultant to the nursery trade and MD of RHSM Group; Ian Davidson, owner of the independent retail store Babylicious and Christine Scippo, Managing Director of Kaleidoscope Communications who has worked with a variety of industries for almost 20 years including baby products and toys.
On the 1st of Feb I scrubbed up and put on my best business power suit and headed for central London – without the twins!
It was pretty intense and really exciting to speak to such experienced professionals from the industry and get their thoughts on my invention. I felt I had been able to communicate the product design and benefits well and able to answer all the judges questions. When asked where and who should stock my product I went with ‘everyone, everywhere’!!
